FAQ on BPAY

1. What is BPAY?

BPAY is a service that allows payments to be made through a financial institution's online or phone banking facility. To make a BPAY payment, you will need to supply the BPAY Biller Code and Customer Reference Number to the financial institutions website or their phone banking facility. For more information about BPAY, go to the BPAY website.

2. IMPORTANT - Why is our BPAY process different?

Most organisations provide BPAY Biller Code and Customer Reference Number when they send bill or invoice statements to their customers. However, we require customers to obtain relevant CTP (greenslip) and Safety Check before the BPAY Biller Code and Customer Reference Number can be provided via the Online Services Registration Renewal website or requested via our IVR automated phone service. This is because registration renewal cannot take place without the CTP (greenslip) and where required a Safety Check.

Once you have the BPAY Biller Code and Customer Reference Number, you may make the BPAY payment via your financial institutions website or their phone banking facility. Note that you cannot make your BPAY payment through our Online Services website.

3. Where can I get my BPAY details?

The BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number can be obtained in the following ways:

  1. Registration renewal notice - If you have a light trailer which does not require a CTP (greenslip) and Safety Check, your BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number will be printed on the registration renewal notice.
  2. Printed in Safety Check inspection report – To pay by BPAY, we encourage you to purchase CTP (greenslip) first before obtaining a Safety Check. This is required so that when the Safety Check is completed, the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number will be printed on your inspection report.

Note: Authorised Inspection Stations (AIS) that transmit inspection details via phone will not print BPAY details.

If you have a vehicle that does not require a Safety Check, you may obtain the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number in the following two ways:

  1. Online Registration Renewal website – Initiate your registration renewal online. Enter the vehicle registration Billing Number as provided in the yellow section of your Renewal Notice. When you select BPAY instead of credit card payment method, the system will provide the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number.
  2. Call the IVR automated phone service on 1300 360 782. Enter the vehicle registration Billing Number when prompted. When you select BPAY instead of credit card payment method, the system will provide the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number.

4. How to renew your registration using BPAY?

When you have received your Renewal Notice, you can initiate your registration renewal.

  1. Purchase a CTP (greenslip), if your vehicle is not a trailer.
  2. Get a Safety Check from your AIS Station. Your Renewal Notice will indicate whether you need to get a Safety Check for your vehicle. When the Safety Check is completed, if you have purchased your CTP (greenslip), the BPAY Biller Code and Reference Number will be printed on your inspection report.
  3. Go to your financial institution's internet or phone banking to make the payment.

5. How long does BPAY payment take?

Please allow at least 2-3 business days for us to receive your BPAY payment. If completed over the weekend, it may mean 4 to 5 calendar days for the payment to be received. The registration will NOT be renewed until FULL payment has been received.

Quick reference

Billing Number: A Roads and Maritime Services issued number printed on your Renewal Notice. The Billing Number (in most cases) is located in the yellow section of the Renewal Notice.
